Welcome to the homework page. We'll be updating this page on a regular basis. You will find assignment specifics, rubrics and any shifts in timelines.

If you have questions about the assignment, you may also ask questions here. Simply click on the discussion tab and post your question. I plan to check your posts on a regular basis, but if you see a question you can answer, feel free to post a response.

Week of May 16th:

Make sure you get journals in by Friday, May 20th if you want credit!
Due Friday: Four questions from "The Interrogation" due.

Week of April 4th:

For block day: Vocabulary 4 quiz
For Friday: Read to at least page 100 in independent reading book.
Over weekend: Read to at least 120 in independent reading book.

Week of March 14th:

For Tuesday: rough draft of career paper due
For block day: none!
For Friday: work on career presentation
Over weekend: Prepare for presentations on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Week of February 28th:

For Tuesday: finish draft of goals and dreams section
For block day: have interview completed with notes taken
For Friday: have draft of Background and History completed

Over vacation:

Complete interview for career paper. Make sure notecards are finished! See Career Reseach Paper page for further details.

Week of February 14th:

See career research paper for details on career assignment
for Tuesday: complete five notecards
for Wednesday: complete ten notecards
for block day: complete all notecards (15-120 total)

Week of February 7th:

See career research paper page for details on the career assignment
by end of day Tuesday: three sources with MLA links
by end of block day: complete annotating/ highlighting 2 sources
by Friday: complete annotations for all sources
Over weekend:If necessary, finish notecards

Week of January 31st:

We are beginning the career research paper this week and all the information you need can be found by clicking the link. This assignment will be about 60% of your third quarter grade. Deadlines and time management will be important. I'll check off your deadlines which will be worth an extra exam grade at the end of the project. You will also get daily grades for work completion. This week, your work will be to finish your independent reading book (due February 9th or 10th) and complete the following tasks for your career project:
by Tuesday, February 1st: Pick your career
by Friday, February 4th: 15-20 interview questions should be typed up and ready for your interview

Week of January 10th:

For block day: Read pages 1-50 in your independent reading book; work on portfolio. See details on Portfolios page.
For Friday: Study vocabulary from SAT Vocabulary page
Looking ahead: Midterms next week. Please have portfolio completed, with other reader response (parent form). Vocabulary is worth 30%. Please study.
Schedule: Period 3 and 7: Thursday, 1/20

Week of January 3rd:

For block day: Finish writing about bad decision, one page, typed, double-spaced.Choose independent reading book.
For Friday: Read 15 pages in book
Looking ahead: Begin to review vocabulary for midterm. See SAT Vocabulary page for words.

Week of December 6th:

Block day: Independent book due 12/8 or 12/9. Story map due. Study for vocab test
Friday: Vocab test on SAT 3 words

Week of November 29:

Your independent reading book is due December 8 (period 3) or December 9 (period 7) along with your completed story map.
Begin studying your SAT 3 list. Test next Friday, 12/10.

Week of November 15:

Final draft of essay is due on Friday. Download rubric here and attach to end of paper:

Visual story with text and images due next Tuesday, 11/23.
Read independent reading book 15 minutes each night. Entire book is due 12/8 or 12/9.

Week of November 1:

SAT 2 exam is on block day. Study!!
Finish book by Friday, before class!
By the end of the day on Friday, please have thesis and statements complete.

Week of October 25:

Monday: Read chapters 11 and 12, Long Way Gone. Read to p.143 in Sold
Tuesday: Read chapters 13-14, Long Way Gone. Read to 165 in Sold.
Block day: Complete crossword puzzle. Read chapters 15-16, Long Way Gone. Read to 185 in Sold.
Weekend: Catch up on any reading. Study for vocab quiz on block day.

Week of October 18:

Block day: Read up to page 100 in Sold. Read chapter 7 in A Long Way Gone. Complete sentences for SAT 2. See SAT Vocabulary for specifics.
Friday: Read through page 121 in Sold. Read chapters 8-9 in A Long Way Gone.

Week of October 12:

Tuesday: Read chapters 2-3 in A Long Way Gone; Read 18-36 in Sold
Block day: Read chapters 4-5 in A Long Way Gone; Read 37-44 in Sold
Friday: Read chapters 6-7 in A Long Way Gone; Read 45-63 in Sold

Week of October 4:

Tuesday: Select book for reading
Wednesday: vocabulary test on SAT 1 words
Friday: Read first 20 pages of Sold or A Long Way Gone

Week of September 27:

By block day: final draft of memoir is due
By Friday: independent reading book is due
Looking ahead: test on SAT words is on Tuesday. Please study!

Week of September 20:

By Tuesday: read to at least page 90. Write your opening paragraph for your memoir
By block day: Complete at least 1 and a half pages of memoir. Rough draft due at end of block day. Read to page 120.
By Friday: Read to page 150
Over weekend: Study vocab. Read to page 160

Week of September 13:

Word of the week: persevere: (verb) to continue on in the face of difficulty
Read at least 15 pages in your book each night (including the day you do NOT have class)!This means:
By Tuesday: read to at least 60
By block day: read to at least 75
By Friday: read to at least 75. Complete memory chart for rough draft of memoir due next week. See details on "Memoir Work"

Find five words in your book. Write them on a post-it note. We'll find definitions on block day.

Week of August 30:

Tuesday: Bring in picture of yourself and a picture of someone or something which inspires you.
Wednesday: Complete student survey
Thursday: Complete portrait of a reader over weekend. Bring in supplies. (See syllabus on home page for details.)
