It is hard to believe that in modern day, children are sold into prostitution. However, many families living in poverty all over the world face a terrible choice: to survive or sell their children. In Patricia McCormick’s novel Sold, the protagonist Lakshmi is sold by her stepfather into prostitution. Throughout the book Sold, Lakshmi overcomes her struggles because of her determination, resilience and imagination.
